Legend has it that an Avatar must learn the art of controlling the elements in their order, starting with the original elements of the Avatar's nation, but sometimes this sequence can be skipped if circumstances dictate. Learning to control elements that contradict one's native elements is extremely difficult because of the different styles of martial arts and their doctrines.
